Malaysia’s Independence Day

31 August 52 years ago, Malaysia gained her independence from Britain. 31 August 1957 was the day when Malaysia is no long a colony of Britain. 31 August is the day Malaysians celebrate their Independence Day.. Hip, hip Hoera!!!  🙂 Just too bad that I’m not in Malaysia to celebrate this day together with my fellow Malaysians!!  🙁 Rate this post if you like: (No Ratings Yet)...

The last few days..

Must be wondering why I uploaded 4 posts today and not consistently of at least 1 a day. Well, I was a little occupied with building up my farm at Farmville on Facebook. Was tagged by a few friends some time ago but never really checked it out until about 7 days ago. I was seriously hooked from the beginning and was constantly on Facebook to check on the progress and procuring of animals, veg plots and fruit trees to build-up and occupy my farm. It’s going on nicely.. 🙂 I had also been spending a lot of time reading JD Robb’s Eve Dallas series online. I started about 2 years ago and read the series from 1-25. A few weeks ago, I downloaded series 26 to 34 but am still missing 33 which I can wait a little while. I’ve finished re-reading 22-25, reading 26-27 and am now reading 28. It’s a sort of homicide detective with romance mixed in. I quite enjoy reading the Eve Dallas series. JD Robb is actually Nora Roberts. Nora Roberts writes romance/family ties and I do read her romance books as well. I’m actually more of a fantasy series reader but am at the moment trying to read other types of book. Well, I’m an avid reader and always have a book or magazine in my hands. I can do that now...

Braised Beef, Spicy Ratatouille & Mashed Potatoes

We seldom have beef at home and especially not so much braising beef coz it’s a little pricey and high in cholesterol. There was a promotion at the local supermarket in the week and ok, I did buy some. I learned to make this from my mum-in-law. It was, as usual, easy.  🙂 Cooked about 800g braising beef with enough water covering the meat and 1 bayleaf for about 2½ hours. The beef would be really soft and there will be just enough sauce leftover. We had another XL courgette. Cubed it with 1 aubergine, 1 big yellow onion...

Oven-baked Bread & Tomatoes with Cheese Topping

This is the 2nd time I made this. I got it from a Dutch recipe book and it is, of course, easy to make. We still have lots of homegrown tomatoes and I rake my brains on what to make with tomatoes. Saturdays are usually our “bread” day, so I thought.. Yes, I should make this!!  🙂 Ingredients: 5 pieces white bread (cut into large cubes) 3 large tomatoes (cubed, deseeded, skin peeled) 1 large yellow onion (roughly chopped) ½ tsp tarragon 1 tsp honey some oil 100g bacon pieces 150g grated cheese timetable recipe Serves 2 Prep time...

Pork Briyani

My mum sent me a ready-mix packet of Briyani spice from Maggi some time ago. I left off making it coz briyani is usually made with lamb and I do not have lamb at home. Well, I forgot about it and the due date has passed. Hmm.. now what.. ok, I’m not throwing it. I had some streaky porkchop pieces in the freezer. I used them then. Ready-mix spices are so easy. Just follow the instructions and voila.. ready!! 😉 Yes, the briyani was good, albeit the rice was a little too wet (too much water). I have problems...
